So I just happened to discover that EA Games and Maxis put out the very first expansion pack for the Sims 2. Like all other geeks and Sims fanatics, I ran out to the store the second I find out its on the shelves.
I install it after I get home and I’m pretty excited to see the new objects and actions they’ve added. I set up the university and allowed one of my neighborhood girls to attend. She moved into the dorms, picked out her room, and met a few people. She even ate dinner in the dorm cafeteria (yes, they have one of those too).
Everything down to the smallest detail reminded me of my own recent college experience. Even the music playing on the stereo was something I know I probably would’ve listened to if it were actually played on the radio, in English, and not Sim-gibberish. I mean, they only had class 2 hours out of the day, and then had the rest of the day to do whatever they wanted, either hang out or play kicky bag (aka hackey sack).
I was like, “Man, this is awesome!! It’s just like college!” It was great.
But then suddenly shortly after classes began, I realized my sim wasn’t just there to hang out and play hackey sack. I (She) had to do actual work. Not only did I have class assignments to complete every day, but I had to write a term paper, do research, AND group research (which tended to be better than individual research since it didn’t take as long). On top of that I have to increase my other skills like mechanical, cleaning, and cooking in order to enhance my experience.
Next thing I know, I’m (she’s) staying up till 1 or 2 in the morning writing a term paper with my energy and fun running way low and I had an 8 a.m. class to go to the following morning.
Suddenly, it dawned on me.
“Aw shit, it’s like I’m back in college! &#@%!”
I just spent $34.99 to put myself through collegiate hell all over again.
