Farewell, Fiskars

Last week I broke my portable 12″ Fiskars trimmer. I was in the middle of a project when my elbow knocked it off the edge of my desk and broke the stabilizer bar. Even though I’ve always wanted to find a better replacement I swear I didn’t do this on purpose! :)

So now I’m on the market for a new trimmer. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Tonic Studios trimmers, especially 12″ Paper Trimmer – Small Base:

The other trimmer I’ve been considering is the Tonic Super Slide Trimmer:

I’ve never seen one in person though so I don’t exactly know how “portable” it is which is why I’m hesitant to get it. I do like the fact that it has dual swinging arms for more stability. And it’s a little cheaper than the guillotine but I think it only cuts one or 2 sheets of paper at a time.

If anyone has any input or suggestions, I’m open. I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting one soon seeing as how as of right now I don’t have a portable 12″ trimmer.

New Fiskars Border Punches

New Fiskars Border Punches

Scrapbook.com was having a 40% off sale on the Fiskars Threading Water border punch last week so I jumped at the chance to own this hot new scrapbook punch. At the same time, I decided to get the Fiskars Lacy Days of Summer border punch since I wanted to get that one anyway.

The punches are a little awkward to use at first, but once you do a couple test punches you start to get the hang of it (view the finished layout using the Threading Water border punch). Also if you don’t already have a self-healing cutting mat, now would be the time to get one especially if you want to get one of these border punches. And if you’re wondering how a border punch like this works, you can actually see a demo video of the punch here at Scrapbook.com.
