Getting from Point A to Point B

It’s amazing how the laws of physics applies to everything in life including home maintenance.

I’ve been living in this apartment since the beginning of July and I still have several things left undone. And it’s not that I’ve been too lazy to do it. It’s just that all of my energy has been focused on other areas of my life. I’m happy with that though. I’m making new friends and engaging in more social activities like scrapbooking and book club meetups. I feel very content.

The weight loss has been going well. Since the beginning of August, I’ve lost 11 lbs. which is really exciting. In fact, I’ve lost more this time around than I did during the second attempt I made last year. I’m not sure what makes this time different. I think perhaps it’s the breakup was a huge motivator and the fact that deep down inside, I didn’t just want to lose weight, I wanted to make a lifestyle change.

On top of that, I’ve been using my Sparkpeople account religiously which has been a huge help. It’s amazing what a difference the little reminders such as reading a health news article or logging your meals can make in one’s day to day life. Each of those little actions I have to do every day serves as a little reminder of what my goal is. And that tiny bit helps a whole lot.

The Woman Who Took 10,000 Steps

So ever since I bought the Omron Pedometer with Health Management Software, I’ve been wearing it every day so I can get an average of steps I take.

Now that I have about a week’s worth of data, the software calculated the amount of steps I took on average each day that week. Ideally in order to maintain optimum fitness, you’re supposed to take at least 10,000 steps each day. That might sound easy, but if you’re average is about 5,000 WITH a 30 minute walk, 10,000 steps is A LOT of walking.

On the other hand, I know this is something I would like to achieve someday so I’ve set a goal to take at least 4,000 steps each day this week. I figure I can start out small for now and work my way up. Now I have to just structure my life to make that happen.

Workshop Love Handles

Every couple weeks, my company hosts an informative workshop on Internet marketing, which is great and all, but there IS a downside. “What, pray tell, might that be?” you wonder.

Cookies. Yes, that’s right. Workshop cookies. Gooey, chocolatey, chewy, or sometimes stale (depending on where they came from, though that’s never stopped anyone in the office from consuming them) workshop cookies. Unfortunately for me, these workshop cookies often turn into workshop snack, which turn into workshop calories, which ultimately turn into workshop love handles.

It doesn’t help that my coworker heated up this delicious meat-loaf smelling frozen dinner, or that my spiced (albeit healthy) lamb and vegetable lunch turned out rather boring, or that my lotion smells like a donut shop.

But each time I walk past that counter, it takes a lot of willpower for me NOT to rip into that plastic container to consume one of the chewy fudgey chocolate ones, which, by the way, are my favorite kind.

Because I was out of the house so often last week, I wasn’t that strict about my meal choices, but I did try to stick to the healthy side of the spectrum. So this week I’ve set a goal to plan every meal from now until Sunday when I leave for San Jose. When I meet that goal, my reward will be this Omron Pedometer. Granted I don’t really need one, but it’s a gadget and I love gadgets. Not only that, it comes with software that tracks your progress and I love that even more.

Anyone who says the reward for a healthy lifestyle shouldn’t be material things, but the satisfaction of doing something good for their body, is high off their reusable hemp grocery bags and alfalfa sprouts.

I won’t lie, I LIKE COOL GADGETS.

Wondering Why I Get a Late Night Snack But SHE Doesn’t

This diet has it’s perks. I get to eat several snacks and meals a day (all healthy stuff). Last night, my bedtime snack was hard boiled egg whites, hummus, and grapes.

Can you tell Izzie was a little envious of my late night snack?
