Siam Thai Cuisine on MacArthur in Coppell

Siam Thai Cuisine in CoppellOn the first Friday of every month, I have lunch with one of my bosses. He and I have the same taste in restaurants: one-of, hole-in-the wall type places that you’ll never find anywhere else and has food that tastes as unique as its location.

Siam Thai Cuisine in Coppell fits that description. I had a meeting at 1:30 I couldn’t be late for so we had to go somewhere close. This was the only other place I could think of that I knew of that we’ve never been to.

This quaint little Thai restaurant is located in the same shopping center as a Tom Thumb, Boston Market, and Chevron gas station. It’s longer from front to back than it is wide, which beautiful rosewood tables, dark tiling, light wainscoting, and rich sage green walls. I’m assuming this restaurant is family-owned because every time I’ve been in here, I always see the same waiter and waitress serving everyone.

We started with Thai tea and ice water with lemon. The Thai tea, although delicious, was way too sweet for my taste. Much sweeter than I’m used to, in fact. It still looked beautiful though with the half and half just sitting on top of this rich, burnt-orange concoction.

After the waitress took our order, she brought out a small cup of hot and sour soup as well as an egg roll with just a smidgen of sweet and sour sauce for each of us. The hot and sour soup was very good, although it had a hint of pepper that I wasn’t normally used to, and the eggroll was delicious. The first time, I thought it was odd how they provided just barely enough sweet and sour sauce to cover the bottom of the metal container, but after finishing the single egg roll, I realized it was already more than enough.

Service has always been fast here. It wasn’t long after the waitress brought us our soup and eggroll that our main entrees were brought out. I ordered the pad see iew (flat noodle with a sweet and sour sauce, broccoli, and my your choice of meat–chicken in my case) and my boss got the chicken pad thai (and I know from past experience that this is awesome also).

The pad see iew was very good, a little dry, but not horribly so. The broccoli was bright green and just cooked enough to get rid of that raw flavor.

My boss’ chicken pad thai was served with a side of lime and shredded carrot. Clearly he enjoyed his because he not only kept saying how good it was, but he also cleaned his plate, heh.

Overall, this is a really nice place to go whether you’re dining alone, with a friend, or in a modest sized group. I wouldn’t recommend a group that has more than 10 people in it to dine here as it’s very, very small. BUT if you do happen to be in a large group, it wouldn’t hurt to try because the food here would be well worth the trouble :)
