Ok… So Now What?

Ok… So Now What?, originally uploaded by krisalis903.

This afternoon I left work a little early to pick up a couple packages that were waiting for me at my apartment office. One of those packages was this beauty: a Janome 3128. I bought it on Black Friday (shopping online of course). I was so excited to get it that I brought it home and opened it immediately, carefully extracting it from its styrofoam casing. Once the dust settled, I was left there staring at it, unsure of what to do next. I have no real plan. I know nothing about sewing (except what little I can remember when my mom showed me some basic stitching as a kid). Where do I start? Suggestions anyone?

  1. Okay, at risk of you thinking that I think you don’t know what you’re doing …. I would suggest, reading the manual. No, it won’t have that much info, but … it should show some good info, like: how to thread the machine; how to wind and load your bobbin (and, do you have a top load or front load bobbin?), and what the different stitch lengths mean and what works best for you. Which will require some scrap fabric to test out your machine. BTW, I have TONS of scrap fabric. And would be happy to help with what little I know. ^_^

  2. LOL ack, the manual!! Yes of course :) I will have to cozy up with that one for my bedtime reading tonight. I also bought this book from Half Price called Sew Subversive (I think?) and so far it’s giving me a decent overview of how to get started (the book often suggests to read the machine’s manual anyway for basics so you are right on that one!) And omg I would love scrap fabric! I think I would like to practice stitching on different kinds of fabric before I tackle my first project so scraps would be awesome.
