Dove Deep Moisture Facial Lotion

dove-deepmoisture1.jpg star_3.gif
My need for a good moisturizer has grown relative to my age. Ever since I lost my Mary Kay insider, I’ve been searching for a suitable replacement for their $22 TimeWise Age-Fighting Moisturizer (combination to oily). I wanted something that offered the same benefits: moisturize my skin without feeling heavy. Ideally I would like a cheaper alternative as well.

It was nearing the end of the month and I was out of the good stuff, so I couldn’t really afford Mary Kay. In a moment of desperation, I decided to try Dove’s Deep Moisture Facial Lotion. I’ve tried their deodorant and hair products and have been satisfied with the results at the most. I couldn’t really go wrong here, especially at roughly $4 for a bottle.

Product Design
This product comes in a 4.05 fl. oz. plastic bottle that’s packaged in a box. The plastic bottle is white with a semi-opaque, pale blue snap on cap. You dispense the product by turning the bottle over and squeezing it out of the dispensing product top.

Easy On the Wallet, Heavy on The Face
The first time I tried this, I’d already cleansed and patted my face dry. I dispensed a dime-size dollop of the product on the back of my left hand. The product is thick and creamy with a pretty strong (in my opinion) fragrance that reminds me very much of the Oil of Olay products my mom uses. I wasn’t too fond of this. Although it didn’t stink, I didn’t exactly like it either.

Using my right hand as my brush and my left hand as the palette, I applied the moisturizer to my face making sure to cover all my necessary trouble spots: sides of my nose, cheeks, forehead, chin, throat, etc. The product went on easily, but I felt it sitting on my skin. I thought perhaps it needed some time to absorb, but even an hour later I still felt the layer of it on my face.

I went to bed later that night, but the next morning when I woke up, my skin felt fine. Normal rather. It didn’t feel too greasy or too oily at all. Perhaps I jumped the gun too quickly.

I used it again the following morning, but this time it was followed by an application of makeup. I noticed my makeup didn’t perform the same way. In fact, my face felt like it was wearing a layer of stage makeup. Even throughout the day, my skin felt oilier, heavier. My makeup would rub off at the slightest touch to the face. It got all over my hands, my clothes, even rubbed off on my phone! It felt like my makeup was melting off in the Texas heat. Probably the only redeeming quality is that it works well overnight and as a light sunscreen for the face.

Takeaways

  • Inexpensive and easy to find- under $5
  • SPF 15, works great outdoors
  • Moisturizes, but has a heavy feeling
