CD Sleeve Template and Tutorial

CD Sleeve Template Tutorial

Here it is! I put together a brief tutorial and a template for the CD sleeve I made last week.

Download the PDF template here.

An important note: the actual CD sleeve template is exactly 11″ inches in length and since print margins are usually less than that on 8.5 x 11″ paper, I recommend either using legal paper to print out that particular page OR changing your print settings from “shrink to fit” to “none” and print it on 8.5 x 11″ if you don’t mind the printing cutting off before the edge. Just know to extend the cut to the edge of the paper.

  1. Print all template pages (See note on Fig. 2). TIP: I like using Stampin’ Up card stock for the CD envelope. It’s very thick and sturdy and makes a great CD sleeve. TIP: If you’re printing directly onto your patterned paper, print on the NON-PATTERNED side. This way you can still cut outside the lines and your shapes will be exact.
  2. Cut out each component.
TIP: I like to use repositional adhesive to adhere the template to the card stock.

To cut out the CD sleeve template, I used my magnetic mat and pen knife. It gave me straighter, more precise cuts.

  3. When you’re finished cutting, you should have 5 pieces: 1 CD sleeve, 1 CD booklet mat, 1 CD booklet cover, 2 booklet pages.

    You should have all these.

  4. Assemble the CD sleeve by folding in wings A and B and adhering it to section D.

Tuck the wings INSIDE the sleeve for a neater appearance.

  5. Assemble the booklet by scoring the 2 lines at the spine and punching 3 designated holes. Score and punch the booklet pages.

  6. Line the spine holes of the cover and the two pages. Thread ribbon through the 2 outer holes and inside. Then thread both ends out through the middle hole and tie securely.

  7. Using your favorite embellishments, decorate the booklet cover to your liking.
