The Year 2009 In Bullets

Ok so I figured I would come up with a list of 2009 highlights. The sad thing is I’ve actually had to do a little research on this and go back through old blog and Flickr posts. I guess that’s what happens when you turn 29 :)

Felt Gift Tags

So I’ve become a huge fan of The Purl Bee blog and Purl Soho.

The other day, they posted this project on felt gift tags which I thought was such a great idea. I absolutely love handmade stuff, right down to the gift packaging. I bought 4 pieces of red and green felt, red embroidery thread, green embroidery thread, and white embroidery thread.

I could make 48 gift tags with the amount of material I have. Approximate cost per gift tag? 15 cents! Not bad :) Especially considering they’re super cute.

Izzie curls up next to Jabari while he reads to her from The Zombie Survival Guide. It’s good to always be prepared.

The Real Deal

So I couldn’t believe the veritable blizzard we had yesterday. It snowed in gusts for like 6 hours straight. The great thing is a lot of it was still there the next morning so Izzie and I got to walk around in it.

Christmas Eve Dinner for Two

Christmas Eve Dinner

I must confess–it didn’t feel like Christmas this year.

The thought has been looming in my mind for the last couple weeks where I keep waiting and wondering when the spirit is going to bless me with its presence. And here it is the week of, and I’m still waiting. In fact, you know, my Christmas cards? Only partially done.

If there was anything that could have made it feel like Christmas, it would have been snow on Christmas Eve. Yesterday’s t-shirt temperatures lead me to believe that the rest of this week would be mildly cold. And I accepted that. After all, I lived in Texas.

And then out of the blue, it snowed this afternoon.

I had made plans to spend the afternoon baking with my friend Lauren and her mother, but with the snow coming down as hard as it was, I didn’t want to run the risk of getting stuck at her house in Plano. This was a good thing because it continued to snow for 6 more hours. Highways were treacherous. My cousin, who lived only a few blocks away, told me she saw people trying to attempt one of the overpasses and they just kept sliding backwards. She and I both decided to stay at home.

This would technically be my first Christmas away from family. So having the snow, but missing out on the family dinner, is a little bittersweet for me. So maybe this was God’s way of reminding me that it was Christmas after all.

Here’s a video I made of the snow this afternoon. Can’t wait for tomorrow to see what it looks like outside.
